Day 2 - 960 miles behind us!
We were greeted this morning with light blowing snow but no accumulation on the ground. Weather.com had promised only a 30% chance of snow for the length of I-81, so we took our chances and hit the road at 8 a.m., wondering how accurate that prediction was. Thankfully we left the snow behind within 20 minutes, and enjoyed sunny blue skies for almost our entire trip. Signs of spring were everywhere, from cattle grazing in the fields and deer grazing on the road sides, to flattened skunks and possums on the roads. The Blue Ridge Mountains stood out crisp and clear against the sky, and even though they were snow covered, in the distance they did look blue. As soon as we crossed the state line from Virginia into North Carolina, there was NO MORE SNOW! YES!! We leap-frogged tractor trailer trucks coming down
I-77 until we reached Jonesville,NC, where we decided to call it a day and find a motel -- a Comfort Inn -- not quite as nice as last night but it has a pool. :-)
We are very thankful to have scooted out between storms, and to have reached the South! Sorry for you guys up north who are enduring yet another snow storm!
We spoke with Sam this afternoon. He is planning to reach Ft. Levenworth, Kansas by this evening, and expects to reach Alabama by Tuesday.. at least that's the plan for now. Yesterday they thought they had a mini disaster, as they had left Aedon's goldfish in the truck over night, and his fish bowl froze solid. But when the ice melted, little Nemo woke up, and was swimming around like nothing bad had ever happened to him! Sam and Desi were relieved that they didn't have to tell Aedon that his fish didn't survive the trip. Looks like Sam and family are in the clear weather wise, as are we. Thanks to the Lord for His many blessings!
